The long road that awaited me today. This happens to lead to Area G of East Coast Park. The part furthest to the east.
Well, I decided at 7am, to go for a walk. I left home and then decided I wanted to go for a jog. I ended up doing a med-paced run.
Yes, I'm fasting and I ran. hooray.
This will sound TOTALLY off-point and random but my main point today is the fact that many Muslims don't really make full use of this month.
If you ask any Muslim person, guy or girl, what was the purpose of this month, they would give you a variety of replies, some very much thier own opinions, but which are mostly correct anyway.
Some would say, its a chance to repent and bring ourselves closer to God. True Others would say that it is a month where we fast so that we can share the suffering felt by millions of starving people. Also true. Plenty spend their nights devoting their time devoted to the Quran and other religious articles. Others fill their time by hanging out in the mosque and praying 20,000 rakaat of prayers.
However, there is a major flaw in alot of us. While yes, this month sees a significant increase in concentration on the afterworld - akhirat - many forget about the world. As all Muslims should know, even strict, deathly devotion to the world after Judgement Day, is wrong, utterly wrong. We should have a certain degree of interest in the current world.
The flaw I have identified is very, very, simple to spot, and even more so this month. Its called LAZINESS. Many, mostly kids, spend thier fasting days, lazing around, sleeping endlessly and demonstrating horrific posture while rooted to the sofa and watching the television or playing a game. All you'll hear out of them is endless complains about how they're exhausted, or that its humid.
But most of all, I hate it when you complain about how doing anything physical is bad because you are fasting. It's a pity that Muslims here are that willing to degrade yourself infront of others. I'd be humiliated if I had to turn down a non-fasting friend's offer to play soccer or go to the gym.
Our religion does not teach us to be lazy during this month and use fasting as an excuse for anything.
I went on a run today for two hours. I felt great after that, and I didnt even feel thirsty. I'm not trying to brag or anything, but it shows that if you are willing to do something healthy for yourself, and with utmost sincerity, God will help you.
So, if you ever hear me sigh out loud, or just enough for you to hear, because you used fasting as an excuse for your chronic laziness, you'll know why I did it.
will YOU be my escape? 9:26:00 pm
