Gratitude is like a Credit Card sometimes
You'll get something from someone, or they offer it to you.
You take it first, and the THANKS can be sorted out at a later date.
when the bill arrives, if you're that kind a person, you'll pay on time.
But usually, people like to delay.
There's the grace period, and you continue charging to your card.
Then when that period ends, you only pay back in haste, to avoid the fine.
some go beyond that, and ignore the fines, until the card gets revoked.
